Job Description

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union in the world, seeks an experienced Aviation Benefits Attorney for our office in Tysons (McLean), Virginia; other locations are possible for the right candidate. The Benefits Attorney represents ALPA’s interests in a broad range of employee benefits matters, providing legal advice regarding pilot employee benefit plans, including qualified defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans, nonqualified deferred compensation plans, welfare benefit plans, and other employee fringe benefit plans.

Local, national, and international travel is required, ranging from 10% to 30% of the time.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an approved law school required.
  • Member in good standing of the Bar.
  • Five (5) years of related experience (management discretion allows substitution for some years of legal experience).
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate confidence and executive presence.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate long-term projects.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to formulate decisions and/or solve problems under time pressure and urgent conditions.
  • Efficiency in meeting demanding deadlines and managing projects in an ever-changing environment, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Preferable experience in online legal research and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Physical Demands

The position involves constantly operating a computer/smartphone/tablet, maintaining a stationary position, local and international travel, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and occasionally moving items weighing up to 50 lbs., such as luggage.
