Job Description

First Student, the largest school transportation provider in North America, is hiring a Diesel Mechanic for its shop serving Oak Park. The salary ranges from $23 to $26 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will help maintain and repair school buses, ensuring vehicle readiness and safety, while also providing guidance to lower-level technicians.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual DOT maintenance inspections.
• Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair including brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmissions.
• Ensure work orders are completed accurately.
• Assist with mobile emergency services.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license required; willingness to obtain CDL while employed – training provided.
• At least 3 years of automotive or diesel maintenance and repair experience or technical school education.
• Possess a mechanic’s tool set.
• Willingness to participate in ASE certification program. Training, testing, and bonuses provided.
• Subject to DOT drug testing and physical.
