Job Description

Matheny School and Hospital is seeking a Full-Time Registered Nurse to work in the Frelinghuysen, NJ location. The Registered Nurse will serve as the primary nurse for a caseload of community residents, provide skilled professional nursing care, and interact with other members of the community residence and day program staff to ensure continuity of care and coordination of the care plan.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary nurse for a caseload of community residents.
  • Provide skilled professional nursing care to community residents.
  • Interact with other members of the community residence and day program staff to ensure continuity of care and coordination of the care plan.
  • Assist in orienting new DSP and LPN staff for the group home routines.
  • Document all aspects of health care in accordance with DDD and community residence requirements.
  • Conduct education with DSPs and LPNs on each resident disease issue and treatment.
  • Monitor and coordinate care with Direct Support Professionals.
  • Provide staff training to foster consumers' health and development.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with community health professionals.
  • Review all residents' physical and medication records.
  • Review and supervise the implementation of medically prescribed diets and exercise programs.
  • Consult with medical staff on medical, health and safety issues.
  • Respond to crises and intervene as needed.
  • Recommend policies and procedures on health issues and monitor their implementation.
  • Participate in appropriate staff meetings and professional growth opportunities.
  • Respect basic human rights, dignity, and confidentiality of persons served and property belonging to others.
  • Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary performance improvement initiatives.
  • Attend all required staff in-services.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment for all concerned.
  • Effectively communicate with department head, co-workers, persons served, their families, and outside agency personnel as appropriate.
  • Commit time necessary to the job to ensure appropriate staffing and completion of duties and responsibilities.
  • Effectively manage time at work.
  • Comply with Employee Health requirements.
  • Comply with Matheny policies, procedures, standards of performance, and Code of Conduct.
  • Assist the Group Home Manager with making nurse staffing coverage.
  • Do medication in a given group home if staffing is not sufficient.
  • Approved background check required from all appropriate government agencies.
  • New Jersey Department of Education background check clearance or emergent hire approval required, if applicable.
  • Assist co-workers in the event absences create staff shortages or during emergency staffing situations.
  • Perform on-call coverage for after-hours and weekends on a rotational basis with other Community services RNs.
  • Complete annual competencies as designated by the Matheny Nursing Department.
