Job Description
SJS Industrial, a veteran owned media blasting, industrial painting, powder coating, and light fabrication shop in Virginia Beach, VA, is seeking a full-time professional Booth experienced painter to work Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The ideal candidate for this position should have four or more years of recent experience applying industrial or marine coatings to metal components, along with some experience teaching, mentoring, directing, or supervising junior personnel. This individual should be experienced in interpreting technical drawings and specifications, applying the correct type and thickness of coating, pretreating and arranging items for coating without causing damage, and using an industrial respirator and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for safety.
Responsibilities
- Apply coatings in accordance with customer work orders and technical drawings
- Operate equipment safely and following Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) instructions
- Inspect and maintain equipment and accessories
- Coat objects evenly and at the correct thickness, ensuring optimal coating
- Inspect work for quality and prevent defects
- Provide instruction to junior personnel on painting and tool operation
- Monitor paint stocks, levels, and storage
- Perform routine shift closeout activities and other production-related tasks
Qualifications
- Four or more years of recent experience wet spray painting in an industrial or maritime/marine environment
- Experience teaching, mentoring, directing, or supervising junior personnel
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Understanding of the basic physical properties and mechanics of spray painting for metals
- English communication skills and ability to provide instructions to junior personnel
- Ability to handle physical aspects of the job including lifting and carrying objects up to 30 pounds, working in different temperatures and humidity levels, and standing for extended periods
- Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and background check
